My name is Carolien and I have been living in the Sluishuis for 2 years. Here is my personal story and motivation to nominate ParkinsonNL as a charity for the Sluishuis-pizza-campaign
6 years ago my father was diagnosed with Parkinson's. He recently passed away. Even though he was unable to win the battle against Parkinson's himself, he has always been committed to participate in scientific research to help find causes and treatments for this disease. Now that he can no longer do this himself, me, my mother and sisters have decided to raise money for this charity with actions (you can find more information on our teampage, Cockies meiden in actie) and to continue his mission.
Parkinson's disease is the fastest growing brain disease in the world. It affects old and young. ParkinsonNL aims to slow down and preferably prevent the disease. Until then, we ensure that people with Parkinson's and those around them can live the best possible life. With your gift, Parkinson NL invests in good information, research and innovation. We do this according to the guidelines of the CBF. Part of the money that ParkinsonNL receives goes to research into the causes of Parkinson's and Parkinsonism (fundamental research). ParkinsonNL also contributes to research into, for example, the results of treatments (clinical research). Finally, ParkinsonNL donates money to innovations in care for people who already have Parkinson's.
